Composite Braiding was one of the businesses recently chosen to provide inspiration for an art installation on the new A52 footbridge in Derby. 27 plaques designed by local artist, Denis O’Connor of Sculpture Works, have been installed on the footbridge and were unveiled in a virtual ceremony on 4th March.
As a tenant of the iHub building in Derby, we were asked to provide images of the products we make, to help provide ideas for the design of the ‘Future Derby’ plaque.
Celebrating the city’s past, present and future, the plaques are based on the poem ‘We are Derby’, by local poet Jamie Thrasivoulou. They include representations of Florence Nightingale, Joseph Wright, Royal Crown Derby, Bombardier, Rolls-Royce, Toyota, Derby County Football Club and other famous names.
Steve Barbour, our Managing Director, commented: “It’s fantastic for a young company such as us to be recognised as part of the future of Derby — the UK capital for innovation. We are a growing business at the leading edge of delivering sustainable technology, and to be included among such Derby icons is humbling.”
We recently finished working on a project to create the first of a kind: a thermoplastic composite e-Bike frame that could be made entirely in the UK at high volumes, and at a cost competitive with current imported sources. This bike frame also offers notable improvements over ones made from steel or traditional composites.
