Hosting the Great British Railways Transition Team

Like many businesses with links to the rail industry in Derby, we were excited to hear back in March that our city had been selected as the future home of Great British Railways, a new body being set up to reform Britain’s rail network. So when we were asked by the Rail Forum to show members of the Great British Railways Transition Team (GBRTT) and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) around our new facility, we jumped at the chance!

As a company, we of course manufacture lightweight, high-performance components with great environmental credentials, for a range of sectors, including rail. One of our innovations – a lightweight, permanently antimicrobial grab pole for use in public transport – won the ‘Innovation in Composite Materials’ category at the Composites UK Awards 2021.

During their visit, the GBRTT and DBT teams were keen understand both what we do, but also what GBR’s move to Derby would mean for us, the city and the wider rail industry in the UK. You can hear our MD Steve Barbour’s thoughts on all of this in the video below, which was shared on LinkedIn. We also discussed Composite Braiding’s future expansion plans. Thanks to the Rail Forum for organising this event.

We're just back from the Composites UK Awards in Birmingham, where we were delighted to pick up the Sustainability Award: Net Zero! This is for our pioneering work to devise a lower-carbon manufacturing process for structural composites.
